Luis Figo new ambassador of AGC
Luís Figo to serve as an ambassador for AGC, the company providing the glass for the substitute benches at the upcoming Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
The former Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter Milan midfielder will front a campaign promoting the Tokyo-based glass and chemicals company leading up to this summer’s tournament, which kicks off on 12th June.
“I’m thrilled to be appointed as the captain of this campaign to promote this unprecedented project designed to bring new-found excitement and drama to fans and players alike at the 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil,” said Figo, 41.
AGC signed up to Fifa’s licensing programme in November 2012, agreeing to supply and brand the glass that covers the benches at every World Cup venue. The company plans to unveil its covering at an event in Brazil later this month.
“Luís Figo is an internationally renowned superhero whose attractive performances have long captivated a global audience,” said Kazuhiko Ishimura, the president and chief executive of AGC.
“In our products, we hope to convey the same characteristics and qualities found in his global endeavours and contributions, and for this reason, we chose Mr. Figo to be our ambassador.”
The deal with AGC was secured on behalf of Figo by Portuguese firm ISM, which has represented him since 2007.
